Events Series 2022 concluded in early summer after four successful events. These took place in February, March, May, and June, while the event planned for April was canceled. We are happy to share below this cycle's video recordings. Closed captions are available for all videos; by enabling them, you can choose their automatic translation into your preferred language from the YouTube player's respective options.

This year's events were all broadcast live, with two of them taking place online through Harvard Zoom, and two in-person in Nafplio and in Athens in collaboration with the National Library of Greece. We would like to express our warm thanks to all participants and contributors to this year's series, and especially to the speakers who gave unique presentations of each event's theme, and opened up dynamic discussions for all in attendance.

For the 2022 cycle, the Events Series was titled "Public Discourse in Times of Crisis". This theme focused on the value of reasoned public discourse as a cultural, political, and, more broadly, social good, which also affects the private exchange of ideas. Especially in historical moments of crisis and intense ideological rivalry, the exchange of sound arguments and counter-arguments continues to play a decisive role in the operation of civil society. This year's series included the following events:

  • In February's event, Christos Zerefos gave an online talk titled "Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future".

  • In March's event, Marianna Karamanou spoke in Nafplio on "The Impact of Epidemics on Individuals and Society".

  • During May's event, Nicolas Prevelakis, Pavlos Kontos, and Fereniki Panagopoulou-Koutnatzi presented and discussed the topic "Public Discourse and Dispute in a Time of Crisis" through their presentations "How a Crisis Redefines Public Discourse", "Philosophy: Asclepius for the Crisis", and "Law and Dispute in a Pandemic" respectively. The event took place at the facilities of the National Library of Greece.

  • In the closing event in June, Mark Schiefsky presented online in English the topic "Democracy, Liberty and Expertise in ancient Greece".

We hope you enjoy watching the recordings and we look forward to welcoming you back in the 2023 cycle of events.
