Other initiatives and resources

Over the years, the Center in Greece has collaborated with a number of different institutions and has developed a number of initiatives. All these initiatives and synergies have led to a number of opportunities for students, artists, poets, and the public, as well as the development of resources and the production of content which is accessible by everyone. These collaborations and initiatives include (but are not limited to):

From 2009 to 2021, CHS Greece and CHS US collaborated with the Michael Marks Charitable Trust, a UK-based foundation, to run the Michael Marks Poets in Residence program. Initiated in 2009, this program invited UK poets who won the "Michael Marks Award for Poetry Pamphlets" in London and Edinburgh (also known as the Callum MacDonald Award) to participate in the "Michael Marks Poets in Residence Program" at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece. To learn more about the program and explore the works of the awarded poets, visit our dedicated webpage.

In response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Center devoted efforts to develop tools that would enhance accessibility to its wealth of Classics-oriented digital resources for a wider audience. The HSF series, edited by Evan Katsarelis (CHS Greece) and Keith DeStone (CHS US/Harvard), consistently released an issue every three weeks, starting on October 1, 2020, over a three-year period. To access all issues of the HSF series, visit our dedicated webpage.

Stratis Haviaras (1935–2020) played a crucial role in the inauguration of the Center's workshop series. His profound knowledge of the art of writing, which was the topic of the first workshop organized by CHS Greece, as well as his contagiousness as a teacher set the tone for the evolution of our workshops, which aimed and still aim to offer knowledge to all those who participate in an inclusive, intergenerational and by definition educational environment.

A direct result of his workshop is Μικρός Ερωτικός (i.e. "Short erotic stories"), marking a milestone as the first fully accessible PDF document we share, in our ongoing effort for inclusion. The introduction includes a preview of the content and is offered in both Greek and English, while the literary works remain in Greek for now, as originally conceived.
