Synopsis:
The workshop brings together Byzantine and Ottoman historians and historians of science working on geographical and cosmographical knowledge in the Byzantine and Ottoman worlds—whether the reception, interpretation, and systematization of ancient knowledge, or the empirical construction of new knowledge. The main goal of this exploratory conference is to stimulate scholars to ask new questions on better or lesser known texts, experiment with new frameworks of analysis, and, above all, inspire Byzantinists and Ottomanists to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
