Research topic during fellowship: Leo Strauss revisits Xenophon: The Esoteric Socratic Philosopher.

Despina Vertzagia was born in Athens in 1994. In 2016, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and in 2021 her Master’s degree from the MA Program “Philosophy.” For her graduate studies, she has been awarded a scholarship of excellence from the MA Program “Philosophy” and a Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship (SYLFF). Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and she has been awarded a Robert L. Platzman Memorial Fellowship from the University of Chicago Library to conduct her research on Leo Strauss and classical antiquity. She is the Managing Editor of Conatus – Journal of Philosophy, the international biannual peer-reviewed open-access journal of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory. She has published a monograph on the Platonic studies of Leo Strauss, among other publications.
