Synopsis:

The Department of Philosophy, University of Patras, in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, Harvard University, and the Center of Greek & Chinese Ancient Civilizations, organize an international conference on the topic: "Patterns of Evil in Greece and China." The conference's speakers will contribute with their presentations to cultivating a comparative approach to philosophy and the history of ideas, especially the comparative study of Greek and Chinese civilizations, focusing on the question of evil. Additionally they will interrogate the common belief that Ancient Greece or Ancient China do have a poor concept of evil in comparison with, for instance, the one established by Christian and post-Christian thought and, positively, shed light on the nexus of rational and irrational, divine, natural, ontological, psychological, mythical and symbolic, social and biological aspects of evil that we meet in Greek and Chinese cultures. Attendance is free and open to everyone interested. Learn more about the International Conference on Patterns of Evil in Greece and China.
