Synopsis:

CHS Greece continues to support Greek Universities by hosting their programs at the Center’s facilities in Nafplio, and by creating bridges of communication between them and colleagues from Harvard, while contributing to their administrative, logistical, and other needs.

The Interinstitutional MA Program "Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law" is a program that was established in 2020 and offered by the Department of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. More than 40 students will spend an intensive academic weekend in Nafplio. Apart from sessions they will have with their program faculty, students will attend presentations about the Center’s history and Harvard’s international presence. Moreover, they will be introduced to the Center’s Digital Library, and will then have the opportunity to take advantage of the library’s unique resources.

CHS has also arranged for two more presentations by Harvard faculty members, Kristen Stilt and Nicolas Prevelakis. Kristen Stilt, Professor of Law and Faculty Director of the Animal Law & Policy Program, and Director of the Program on Law and Society in the Muslim World at Harvard Law School, will speak on “Rights of Nature, Rights of Animals.”  Nicolas Prevelakis, Associate Senior Lecturer on Social Studies at the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies and Harvard’s CHS Assistant Director of Curricular Development will give a talk in Greek to participants on the limits of utilitarianism as a framework for “animal liberation”, entitled “Τα όρια του ωφελιμισμού ως πλαίσιο για την 'απελευθέρωση των ζώων'.”
