Meet the University of the Peloponnese Department of Performing and Digital Arts Intern

In spring 2026, we welcomed Dimitris Samaras to the CHS Greece team as an intern from the Department of Performing and Digital Arts at the University of the Peloponnese. During his time with us, Dimitris applied his skills in digital arts to support the Center's online presence, from social media and website content to video production and accessibility. We invite you to read his reflection below on his experience at CHS Greece.

As part of my academic training as a student in the Department of Performing and Digital Arts at the University of the Peloponnese, based in Nafplio, I completed my internship at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece (CHS Greece), an initiative of Harvard University in Greece.

Under the guidance of the Professor and Internship Supervisor of the Department, Mr. Alexandros Eukleidis, I joined the Center's staff as an intern. Focusing on and applying my knowledge in digital arts, I contributed to the development and management of digital content, as well as to the creative and effective communication of the Center's activities with its audience, both in Greece and on an international level.

The reception I received at the Center was particularly warm. Among the entire team, I worked closely with Ms. Christina Lafi, Project and Content Development Manager at CHS Greece. Under her guidance, I started working on the management and production of content for the Center's social media, as well as on the creation of news pages on its website. This work involved the use of content management systems (CMS), basic SEO practices, as well as adapting text and images depending on the platform (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).

Some of the most important examples of my work included the editing and publication of texts written by the Center's fellows based in Greece, in which they presented their research activity and offered an overall assessment of their fellowship. For this purpose, I worked on the structure and visual identity of the pages, edited texts and images, and ensured the consistency and aesthetic coherence of the content. Another key area of work was the technical editing of the video of the event dedicated to Stratis Haviaras, both in terms of video editing and subtitling. In this context, I used video and subtitling software, worked on the flow of image and sound, and ensured that the material was accessible to a wider audience.

My experience at the Center was both formative and unprecedented, as I learned and made use of tools that I had not previously worked with. I engaged with the Center's activities through the lens of their digital presentation, working with contemporary media for outreach and communication and solving problems under real-world content production conditions. By strengthening my technical skills, I believe that this experience has provided me with essential tools for the implementation of my own personal and professional projects in the future.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team of the Center, who trusted me and made me feel like an active member of their team, even for this short internship period, both on a personal and a professional level. I would also like to express my gratitude to Mr. Christos Giannopoulos, Director of CHS Greece, for his trust, support, and for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the important work of Harvard University in Greece—a work that brings together academic research, outreach, and culture.
