Meet the University of the Peloponnese Department of Performing and Digital Arts Intern

Guest post by Christina Vlachaki

My first experience with Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece (CHS Greece) was when, as a first-year student, our professor Mr. Kondis organized an introductory visit to the Center to learn about its operation and activities. Ms. Matina Goga, the Center’s Curricular Development Manager, welcomed us at CHS Greece, where, with her genuine kindness, made me think that this was an institution I’d like to work at someday. Now a graduate student, the time had come to look for an institution to carry out my internship. Immediately, I approached CHS Greece, and they cordially accepted my request, thus starting to work together.

As a Department of Performing and Digital Arts student, the word constructive sums up my internship at the Center. Having chosen the Digital Arts major, and having the necessary knowledge, I began my internship working primarily with the Center’s Project and Content Development Manager, Ms. Christina Lafi. Through our collaboration, I had the opportunity to understand professional website management and familiarize myself with its environment and daily content update, and digital media enrichment. I also proposed and implemented new ideas and contributed to promoting the Center’s identity on its social media platforms, while monitoring and enriching them with new content. For example, I had the pleasure of communicating World Days with the Center’s followers in a new, original way. I then became involved with the Center’s digital archive, in organizing, and in digital media transfer. Finally, I had the opportunity to experiment with digital platforms and propose new ways of presenting and communicating their content. In addition, I got to familiarize myself with the Center’s Digital Library and use its rich research data to enrich my thesis.

The internship provided me with new knowledge while building on existing knowledge and further cultivating my skills. It also allowed me to work and interact creatively with all the CHS Greece team members, and I also genuinely felt part of the team! Finally, I also participated in the Nafplio Marathon as a runner and volunteer with the Center’s team. Thus, I was involved and understood the organization’s involvement in the volunteer activity (preparation, implementation, reporting). My internship at CHS Greece was one of my best professional experiences and I highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity to my fellow students!

Performing and Digital Arts Department Internship in Nafplio

As of 2022, the Center begins working with the Nafplio-based Department of Performing and Digital Arts of the University of the Peloponnese. Interns work together with CHS Greece staff on CHS's digital projects to further enhance their academic and professional skills by being exposed to Harvard's and CHS's resources and overall agenda. Additionally, interns work with the DPDA supervisors and CHS Greece staff in carrying out thesis research and other course projects while preparing a complete bibliography on a subject, which is made available to fellow students and professors to further support teaching and research in the department.
