Harvard's Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece (CHS Greece) were delighted to welcome members of the Harvard community to Nafplio on July 12 and 13, 2025, for an unprecedented weekend of culture, learning, and meaningful connection. The weekend began at CHS Greece with introductory remarks by GSAS Dean Emma Dench, CHS Greece Managing Director Christos Giannopoulos, and GSAS Senior Director of Global Outreach Jen Flynn. Participants enjoyed guided tours of Nafplio's renowned archaeological sites and museums, as well as lectures, discussions, and a memorable performance at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, offering firsthand engagement with the region's rich heritage and an introduction to Harvard's Global Office activities in Greece.

A highlight of the weekend was the evening event on July 13: "Gods and Empire in Ancient Rome and Early China." This featured Dean Emma Dench and Professor Michael Puett in a lively conversation moderated by Evan Katsarelis, CHS Greece Programs and Events Manager. Opening remarks were delivered by Nicolas Prevelakis, Harvard Social Studies and Associate Director of CHS in Washington, DC, and Angie Panagiotakopoulou, Deputy Mayor of Education of Nafplio. The event welcomed over 80 Harvard Griffin GSAS alumni and guests, as well as members of the Harvard Club of Greece and Harvard Summer School students. The evening concluded with an enthusiastic reception at CHS Greece.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our distinguished speakers—Dean Dench, Professor Puett, and Professor Stavrakopoulou—for their insightful contributions. Special thanks are due to all GSAS colleagues, especially Jen Flynn and Christine Hathaway, Senior Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Events, for their outstanding collaboration.

We look forward to the continued growth of the friendships and collaborations sparked in Nafplio, ensuring that the Harvard community remains vibrant and connected, wherever we may gather next in the world.
