Call for Papers: "Greek Drama VI" Conference
- Dates: June 7-11, 2027
- Location: CHS Greece, Nafplio
Submissions are invited for Greek Drama VI, a conference to be held in Nafplio, organized by Hallie Marshall and C. W. (Toph) Marshall at the University of British Columbia and co-organized with Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece. The conference is the sixth of the (mostly) decennial Greek Drama conferences, following Sydney 1982, Christchurch 1992, Sydney 2002, Wellington 2007, and Vancouver 2017. The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Oliver Taplin, University of Oxford.
As with the previous Greek Drama conferences, the aim is to bring together scholars at all career stages, providing an opportunity to establish new directions for the study of ancient theater. We welcome proposals for 20-minute papers on all aspects of Greek drama and performance. In recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of Taplin's The Stagecraft of Aeschylus (Oxford 1977), multiple panels are planned for contributions that recognize the importance of staging, production, and the impact of material culture on the study for Greek tragedy and comedy.
Anonymized abstracts in .docx or .pdf formats, of no longer than 300 words (exclusive of bibliography), should be submitted to greek.drama@ubc.ca. The deadline for abstracts is August 31, 2026. Accepted presenters will be notified by September 28. Please include your name, academic affiliation, and career stage (early, middle, senior) in your message.
Inquiries may be directed to the conference organizers, Hallie Marshall and C. W. (Toph) Marshall at the University of British Columbia. The conference will be in-person only. The publication of a volume of selected papers from the conference is planned, following the examples of Greek Drama III (London 2006), Greek Drama IV (Oxford 2012), and Greek Drama V (London 2020).
