CHS in Washington, DC, proudly hosted the reception of the Greek Embassy in the United States in honor of Greek Independence Day, which signifies the declaration of the War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire on March 25, 1821.

Ambassador of Greece to the USA Ekaterini Nassika, followed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Joshua Huck, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, and Congressman Chris Pappas, gave the opening remarks welcoming hundreds of members of the unique Greek American community, State Officials, representatives of other countries, and friends. CHS was represented by its Director, Professor Mark Schiefsky, Executive Director, Zoie Lafis, CHS Greece Managing Director, Christos Giannopoulos, and the entire team of our Center in Washington.

Related to the celebration of Greek Independence Day, the Center in Washington is also currently hosting a physical exhibition titled "Echoes of 1821: Greek Heroes and Heroines," featuring paintings by Christina Lappa, along with a display from the CHS Rare Book Collection, providing an opportunity to explore Greek history and heritage through art and literature on the Center's premises.

Three colorful paintings are displayed on the clean, well-lit interior of CHS.
