Research topic during fellowship: Fortified Sites and Structured Space in Upper Macedonia

Gerasimos Trasanis is a PhD candidate in Classical Archaeology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a BA in Archaeology from the same institution and an MA in Archaeological Research from the University of Nottingham.

His doctoral research focuses on fortified sites and mountainous landscapes in the Grevena region of northwestern Greece. By combining traditional surface survey methods with digital tools, including drones and GIS, he explores questions of interaction, territoriality, defense, economy, and identity in relation to local communities.

His research interests have been shaped by his extensive experience as a contract archaeologist and through his participation in archaeological projects in northern Greece, including the Philippaioi Project (2024–2028), the Grevena Archaeological Project (2021–2026), and the Track-Recycling Programme (2020–2022).
