Overview

Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece is supporting a series of events dedicated to the poet Nikos Karouzos, taking place from October 16 to 18, 2026, at the Vouleftiko in Nafplio, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth. They are organized by the Municipality of Nafplio and the Department of Modern Greek Literature of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (academic supervision), with the support also of the Region of Peloponnese, the Progressive Association of Nafplio "O Palamidis", and the Union of Authors & Writers of Argolis.

Karouzos, who spent his childhood years in Nafplio, is honored this year with a multi-day series of events marking the 100th anniversary of his birth. The program includes academic sessions in which researchers from Greece and abroad will approach his work interpretively, comparatively, and through its dialogue with other arts, as well as aspects of his life and his presence in education. In parallel, the program will host two art exhibitions featuring works inspired by his poetry and portraits of the poet himself, a round table with the participation of well-known poets, a musical evening with readings of his poems by students of the Music School of Argolis, and a screening of a documentary dedicated to the poet at the Fougaro Art Center in Nafplio. Participants include academics, artists, and figures from Nafplio who knew the poet or study his work.

The CHS Greece contribution includes institutional support, financial assistance, and the participation of members of its community.
