Overview

The Postgraduate Program "Specialized Palliative Care and Advanced Oncology Nursing" of NKUA's Department of Nursing, in collaboration with the Palliative Care Units "Galilee" and "Merimna," and with the support of the Nursing Service of the General Hospital of Argolis - Nafplio Nursing Unit and Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, is organizing the 2nd ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Consortium) Seminar, Nafplio 2024.

The ELNEC initiative, a collaboration between the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and City of Hope, is an international effort aimed at improving Palliative Care worldwide. Launched 24 years ago, it offers a wide range of training programs for nurses and other healthcare professionals. Notably, ELNEC has trained over 45,737 educators in the U.S. and other countries, who in turn have trained over 1.4 million healthcare professionals, significantly impacting the care provided to patients and families facing serious illnesses and end-of-life situations.

Nurses are frequently called upon to support patients with life-threatening illnesses, providing personalized care, education, advocacy, and emotional support for both the patients and their caregivers. The seminar, coordinated by Andreas Mullalli, Maria Parara, and Elisabeth Patiraki, offers participants the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Palliative Care, focus on the assessment and management of symptoms in these patients, address ethical dilemmas, refine communication skills, and discuss various other topics relevant to daily clinical practice.

As part of this seminar, a public event on Palliative Care is being held on Wednesday, December 4.
