Study visit at CHS: Animal Ethics and Law

About the study visit

Key information

Overview

CHS Greece continues to support Greek Universities by hosting their programs at the Center's facilities in Nafplio, and by creating bridges of communication between them and colleagues from Harvard, while contributing to their administrative, logistical, and other needs.

Following the successful synergy initiated in 2023 and further expanded in 2024, the interinstitutional MA program "Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law" will once again return to CHS Greece in 2025. Building on last year's expanded collaboration between CHS Greece, NKUA's Animal Ethics Program, and the Animal Law & Policy Program at Harvard Law School, the program is set to welcome over 40 students for an intensive academic visit in Nafplio. Apart from sessions that students will have with faculty from NKUA and Harvard, they will also have the opportunity to learn about the Center's mission, history, and activities.

Faculty members and administrators, Pablo Perez Castello, Macarena Montes Franceschini, and George Papapadimitriou, will contribute with their presentations during this study weekend. Pablo Perez Castello will speak on "Why Seeing Is Not Believing and Why Believing Is Seeing." Macarena Montes Franceschini will speak on "Animal Personhood: The Quest for Recognition." George Papadimitriou will give a talk on questions and dilemmas about legal hunting and poaching, entitled "Νόμιμο Κυνήγι και Λαθροθηρία: μία Σύνθετη Ανάλυση."
