Synopsis

Τhe Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, Harvard University, is hosting and supporting "We Love Monsters: Reception of Ancient Monsters," an international conference organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Liverpool in Nafplio on May 26–28, 2027. The conference explores the reception of ancient monsters across media, from late antiquity to the present day: from monster theory and feminist and queer readings to their depictions across cultures and in film, TV, video games, comics, manga, and anime. Its starting point is Liz Gloyn's monograph Tracking Classical Monsters in Popular Culture (2020), which finds that ancient monsters are "everywhere."

This is an in-person event. Additional details will be posted once they are finalized.
