CHS Greece announces the beginning of the applications’ submission to the new workshop "American and European Philhellenism and the Liberation of Nafplion: ideas, place, and people at the time of the Greek Revolution", which is held under the aegis of the Municipality of Nafplio - DOPPAT and coordinated by Emmanouil G. Chalkiadakis, (PhD in History, Member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff at the University of Crete, School of Education & Scientific Associate of CHS in Modern Greek History).

The workshop will shed light on the Philhellenes from the United States of America and countries of Western Europe who supported the Greek War of Independence; in particular, those who fought alongside the Greeks for the conquest of Palamidi Fortress and the Liberation of Nafplio, in Argolis. The participants will dive deeper and reflect on the formation, causes, and ways of the Philhellenism manifestation, into European and most notably the American Philhellenism, as well as into the local history of Nafplio, on the occasion of the 200 years since its liberation, its historical context, its importance, and also into the role of the Philhellenes in this military success for the rebelled Greeks. Participants will discover unknown aspects of Modern Greek History, while the visit to the National Gallery - Nafplion Annex and to locations in the town related to the Philhellenes will ensure an experiential approach to knowledge.

Visit the workshop’s webpage for more information and apply.
