CHS GR hosts eOrg
On 15-16 October. CHS GR hosted the annual meeting of eOrg (Economics and Technology of eOrganizations,) a research team from the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT). This year’s meeting featured presentations on the latest developments in internet and Cloud services and discussions outlining strategies for the development of innovative research programs in relevant sectors.
HarvardX launches the second offering of “The Ancient Greek Hero”
3 September. The second phase of the massive open online educational project “The Ancient Greek Hero”, or HeroesX, was launched on September 3rd. The program offers free web lectures from the course, taught by Gregory Nagy, Francis Jones Professor of Classical Greek Literature and Comparative Literature at Harvard University and Director of CHS DC, as well as opportunities to join and interact with a community of fellow learners. Interested participants can register without charge any time before the December 31 closing date.
Summer Internship Program 2013 travels to the United States
10-20 October. The Greek undergraduates who participated in the Summer Internship Program 2013 traveled to the United States in the concluding phase of their summer program in Nafplion. During their stay, the students visited the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C. and Harvard University in Cambridge, where they reconnected with professors and fellow students from the summer. Both visits included sightseeing.
CHS GR contributes to the 3rd International Drama therapy and Play therapy Conference at Nafplio
11-13 October. The 3rd International Dramatherapy and Playtherapy Conference, on the subject “Drama therapy and Play therapy in the World; Space for Meetings, Syntheses, Synergies”, took place at Nafplion and Epidaurus on October 11-,13. A number of the conference’s sessions were held at the Center on 12 October. Ioannis Petropoulos, CHS GR Director, chaired the opening session.
CHS GR welcomes Professors of Astrophysics
4 September. A group of astrophysicists led by Professor Xenophon Moussas, visited the Center on Wednesday, 4 September, 2013 during the 21st International Conference devoted to “Astronomy: Mother of Civilization and Guide to the Future.” At the Center, the group was briefed on the CHS’s activities, and the professors had the opportunity to tour the Iatrou building.
Upcoming Events
The “Events Series 2014” is ready to commence
CHS GR’s “Events Series 2014” will be launched shortly. The general theme of this year’s series will be “Classical Models and Their Reception: From Virgil to Tsarouchis.” The program for the Events Series 2014 will be announced soon.
The Fulbright Foundation event for educators
November. The Fulbright Foundation in Greece, in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies and the Argolis Office of Secondary Education, will organize an event at which educators and instructors will be informed about the U.S. system of higher education as well as opportunities for continuing education at U.S. universities. The workshop will take place in the Center’s lecture hall.
The application window for CHS GR’s Summer Internship Program 2014
In November 2013, CHS GR will begin accepting applications from Greek university students for the Summer Internship Program 2014. Scholarships will again be offered to successful applicants. Center representatives will soon visit the collaborating universities in Athens, Thessaloniki, Komotini, Patra, Ioannina, and Corfu in order to inform undergraduates and professors about the program’s requirements and the available scholarships.
