Educational Event dedicated to Health in the context of Nafplio Marathon 2022: "Diabetes Mellitus - A modern sociomedical problem"

The Municipality of Nafplio (Organization of Culture - Environment - Sports - Tourism  —Greek acronym ΔΟΠΠΑΤ—), The Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, and the Medical Association of Argolis, in the context of the 7th Nafplio Marathon events, co-organize the Educational Event dedicated to Health: “Diabetes Mellitus - A modern sociomedical problem”.

The event will be held on Friday, April 15, 2022 at 7 p.m. EEST at the Vouleftiko Hall in Nafplio.

Before the event, Mr. Evangelos Manouhos, football international referee, will receive an award by the Mayor of Nafplio.

Dr. Christos Mantzoros, Professor of Pathology, School of Medicine, Harvard University, will offer his opening remarks from Boston, MA.

Speakers will be Dr. Christos Zoupas (pathologist-diabetologist, director of the Diabetology Center & Clinic of "HYGEIA") on "Diabetes Mellitus - A modern sociomedical problem", and Dr. Ioannis Anyfantis (pathologist, representative of the Medical Association of Argolis) on "Diabetes Mellitus and Nutrition".

Brief CVs of the speakers:

Dr. Christos Zoupas is a doctor specializing in Pathology, with postgraduate studies in Endocrinology and diabetes mellitus. He is the Director of the Diabetology Center & Clinic of "HYGEIA". He received his PhD at the Medical School of the University of Athens (1973). He is a member of numerous medical societies and scientific journals on diabetes. He was Mayor of Hymettus (region of Athens). He was an international basketball player, a member of the National Basketball Team of Greece with more than 60 participations in the Greek National Team, and a top member of the legendary AEK basketball team that won the European Cup in 1968 in the presence of 80,000 spectators. He holds the Silver Medal of the City of Athens (1969) and the Golden Grand Cross of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem (1988).

Dr. Ioannis Anyfantis specializes in Pathology and holds a PhD from the Medical School of the University of Athens. He is trained at the 1st University Pathology Clinic of "Laiko" Hospital of Athens, which is a reference center for diabetes. He has attended numerous conferences and is continuously retrained on diabetes mellitus. He maintains a medical office in Nafplio.

Α discussion with the public will follow the presentations.

The event will be coordinated by Mr. Evangelos Papapostolou, general manager of the Nafplio Marathon.

The event will also be broadcasted live from the YouTube Channel of the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece (CHS Greece).
