Meet the Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece Intern

As part of the internship program at the Harvard University Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece (CHS Greece), I had the opportunity to join the Center's team as an intern. This experience was both transformative and entirely new for me, as I assumed responsibilities in program coordination that I had not encountered before. Through my role, I became closely involved with the Center's summer academic programs from the perspectives of planning, implementation, and digital communication, placing particular emphasis on consistency, effective communication, and careful coordination. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with faculty members, students, and partners, gaining valuable insight into the Center's operations and its broader academic mission.

My relationship with the Center began during my school years, when I would visit it to study and spend countless hours exploring its digital library. Over the years, the Center became a place of learning and personal growth for me, as I participated in workshops on topics that interested me and that I wanted to explore further.

As an intern, I initially had the opportunity to participate in the High School Summer Program, through which I was introduced to a different approach to teaching, based on dialogue and collaboration. This experience had a significant impact on the way I perceive learning and participation as an educational process. I was then entrusted with coordination responsibilities for the Sport and Education Program, which took place at the sports and educational facilities of the International Olympic Academy (IOA) in Ancient Olympia. Through this role, I developed important skills in managing multiple tasks, coordinating activities, and making decisions promptly, particularly in a demanding and dynamic environment. I subsequently had the opportunity to become familiar with the Harvard Summer School Program in Greece, through which I interacted with students from Harvard and other distinguished universities. The discussions and exchange of ideas that emerged from these interactions were a particularly valuable experience for me and strengthened my desire to be part of environments that encourage the exchange of knowledge and diverse perspectives.

This particular experience was even more meaningful to me because I am originally from Nafplio. It gave me the opportunity to revisit, after many years, familiar places in my hometown and to see them in a different way, through the eyes of students who were discovering them for the first time. Observing their enthusiasm and interest in the places and landmarks where I grew up allowed me to redefine my own relationship with my hometown and rediscover its beauty. At the same time, throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to contribute to the Center's public image by drawing on my aesthetic sensibility and creativity, combined with my passion for photography. This involvement allowed me to combine a personal interest with my professional activities and contribute to showcasing and promoting the Center's initiatives and programs.

Overall, this internship was far more than a professional experience; it was a meaningful personal journey filled with new challenges, knowledge, collaborations, and lasting relationships. I feel deeply grateful not only for the opportunity to contribute to the Center's outward-facing work, but also for the chance to grow personally within an environment that fosters excellence, research, multiculturalism, and the exchange of ideas. I was fortunate to work alongside remarkable individuals whose vision, dedication, and daily commitment to the Center were truly inspiring. To the entire CHS Greece team, I extend my sincere thanks for their trust and support, with the promise that I will continue to support the Center's mission with the same enthusiasm and commitment.
