Information on the Accessibility of CHS Greece
The Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece presents the "Accessibility" page, aiming to disseminate information regarding access for the public, including disabled people, to its building, digital environment, and its activities.
This page is the result of a long-term effort undertaken by all members of CHS Greece, under the guidance and coordination of Mina Tsentourou, the Center’s Programs and Events Coordinator. Starting in the previous academic year (2023–2024), the staff dedicated part of their internal processes to raising their awareness on accessibility, in effect examining parameters through which CHS Greece activities could be made accessible to a broader audience, with the intention of including disabled individuals. Drawing on its already considerable experience in this area, the CHS Greece team further cultivated its professional culture regarding accessibility and took targeted steps to ensure the implementation of inclusive practices in its work.
The foundations for this endeavor had been laid earlier, though, by Harvard University when, in 2019, it established the Digital Accessibility Services office. Among other responsibilities, this office provides training on the Harvard University Digital Accessibility Policy and best practices for all university staff, including CHS Greece team members, through online courses. Drawing from these and other university resources, CHS Greece also collaborated with the University Disability Resources office, which helped the Center include an accessibility statement in its program announcements, serving as an open invitation for disabled people to participate.
The publication of the CHS Greece accessibility parameters, as presented on the new accessibility web page, is not meant to finalize or limit the initiative, but rather to reflect dynamic evolvement. CHS Greece sees the Accessibility webpage as a step toward reaching the public in general and in particular disabled individuals who may be interested to participate in its offerings. It is yet another point of contact, useful for everyone!
