### Overview

CHS grants up to 3 fellowships per year to Ph.D. candidates from Greek universities, regardless of their faculty of enrollment, who conduct research on topics related to ancient Greek civilization. The duration of each fellowship is 12 months (July–June), during which fellows complete a semester-long (July–December) research project of their own choice. Right after the semester-long research project, the fellows are asked to submit an article to be published at [CHS Research Bulletin](https://research-bulletin.chs.harvard.edu/), and before the end of their year-long appointment, they are asked to submit a project report. Throughout the appointment, and especially during its second half, fellows are invited to participate in various CHS activities to share their findings and collaborate with other fellows and members of the CHS community.

## Provisions for the fellows

The fellowship award includes:

## Eligibility

Eligible applicants are Ph.D. candidates of Greek universities who conduct research on topics related to ancient Greek civilization down to late antiquity (c. 600 A.D.). Candidates from every faculty are welcome to apply, regardless of the general academic focus of the department in which they are enrolled. The scholarship is not restricted to candidates from departments traditionally focused on classical studies; candidates from fields such as medicine, technology, architecture, or other disciplines whose Ph.D. research integrates aspects of the ancient world are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must have completed at least the first year of their Ph.D. studies and must be fluent in English. Applicants may not apply to other CHS fellowship programs during the same application cycle.

## Application information

The deadline for submitting applications is Sunday, February 8, 2026, at midnight (Eastern European Time). As part of the application process, applicants must upload a research proposal, a curriculum vitae, a sample of work, a copy of their transcripts from their undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and a letter from their Department that certifies the start date of their enrollment as Ph.D. candidates. Some applicants may be invited to online interviews. The 3-member Academic Committee evaluates the applications and selects the fellows. All applicants will receive notification of the committee's decision by early April 2026.
