Gregory Nagy is the Francis Jones Professor of Classical Greek Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. For twenty-one years (2000–2021) he served as Director of the Center for Hellenic Studies. He is also the leading founding member of CHS Greece in Nafplio and served as President of the CHS Greece Board of Directors from 2010 to 2019. Nagy's areas of interest include Homer, archaic and classical Greek poetry, rhetoric, linguistics, metrics, and traditions. He is known for extending Milman Parry and Albert Lord's theories about the oral composition-in-performance of the *Iliad* and *Odyssey*. Nagy has served as Chair of the Department of the Classics at Harvard University and as President of the American Philological Association (now the Society for Classical Studies). Throughout his career he has been a consistently strong advocate for the use of information technology in both research and teaching, and his belief that "good teaching fosters good research" is readily apparent in the programs and projects he has championed over his tenure at the Center for Hellenic Studies.
