The 7th International Symposium on “Sports, Society, and Culture”, co-organized by the International Olympic Academy and the Center for Hellenic Studies is being held from July 9 to 13 in Ancient Olympia. The subject is “Athla for the People: Democracy, Empire, and the Power of Athletics”; this year’s Symposium will examine the significance of athletics in shaping socio-political discourses from antiquity to the present. By exploring the impact of Olympic distinction on a variety of political systems, the conference sheds new light on the dialogue between the ancient and modern Olympics.
