CHS Greece, in the context of a series of activities organized in honor of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, offers the workshop on Philhellenism "1821-2021. What Greece? " under the auspices of the Municipality of Nafplio and the Committee of Honor "Nafplio 2021".

With the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, interest in Greece began to rekindle. Philhellenism, a phenomenon that characterized the 19th century, presents a kaleidoscope of views on the country, not limited to the interest in modern historical events but also including the dimension of the study of Greek space and Greek culture, i.e. the understanding of the place and its history, people, and circumstances.

The projection of the cultural heritage of ancient Greece into modern Greece, the question of the historical continuity between antiquity and the present, the physiognomy of modern Greek identity between East and West, as well as the country's position in the new European context, are just some of the issues of the discussions that came to life in various ways around Greece throughout the 19th century. These discussions contributed to the formation of an idea of Greece between center and margin of western culture; myth and frustration; continuity and rupture. This is an ambiguity that still prevails today in the Greece-West relationship, leaving room for various interpretations.

During the workshop, the topic will be approached considering the following subject areas:

- Philhellenism as a historical event
- How foreigners saw Greece in 1821
- The timelessness of Philhellenism
- How foreigners see Greece in 2021
