# A Letter from Georgia: My Path at CHS Greece

September 25, 2025

On September 1st, we welcomed [Georgia Dimopoulou](/team/georgia-dimopoulou "Georgia Dimopoulou") to the CHS Greece team in her new role as Programs and Events Assistant. Georgia’s journey with the Center began well before this moment: she first joined us as a participant in the Harvard Summer School in Greece 2024, supported by a full scholarship from the University of Patras, and then took on coordinating duties in the program of 2025.

As she embarks on this new chapter, Georgia shares what CHS Greece means to her, the journey that brought her here, and her hopes for the future. We invite you to read Georgia’s reflection below.

## Text by Georgia Dimopoulou

If I could choose one word to describe my journey with the Harvard Summer School in Greece and the Center for Hellenic Studies in Nafplio, it would be “belonging.”

As a student, joining the Harvard Summer School was a dream come true. Little did I know that this experience would become one of the defining moments of my life—a chapter filled with inspiration, growth, and new friendships that transcend borders. Even today, I stay in touch with fellow participants from all corners of the world; our shared memories have blossomed into lifelong connections.

With the Harvard Summer School 2024 cohort in front of the CHS Greece building in NafplioOne story that still warms my heart is how, during my year as a student, I became known as “the program’s mom” —my friends affectionately used this nickname because I was always scheduling and ensuring everyone was included. This year, returning as a member of the CHS Greece team, I was deeply touched when new students told me, “We’d already heard about you! Last year's alumni said we'd meet Georgia, ‘program’s mom’ who kept everyone together.” Knowing that my spirit became part of the program's shared memories was an incredibly moving experience for me.

Coming back to Nafplio, not just as a visitor, but as someone who now calls this place home, was surreal. The picturesque town, the history, but above all, the amazing people at CHS Greece made me feel like I truly belonged. There was no sense of alienation or newness; instead, it felt like returning to a family and a place that always had a space for me. Now, on “the other side”—as part of the CHS Greece team—what brings me joy every day is seeing how the same environment that nurtured me as a student now allows me to give back. Supporting new students, contributing to our programs, and being able to pass on the energy and passion that once inspired me is a genuine privilege. It is an ongoing circle of learning and sharing.

My academic journey began in Classics, where I discovered the enduring power of storytelling and language, skills I now combine with my studies in Digital Marketing, eager to bring classical narratives to contemporary platforms. For me, marketing is simply storytelling in new forms, connecting people just as literature always has. Alongside my academic path, the arts remain central in my life: through painting, music, dance, and writing, I find new ways to express creativity. Now, living in Nafplio, I am excited to channel this passion both in my work at CHS Greece and in the local community, nurturing culture through participation and volunteerism.

If there is one thing I wish for everyone who crosses the threshold of CHS Greece, it is that they feel what I felt: that sense of belonging, the freedom to explore, and the joy of building community. In turn, what I hope to gain from my journey at CHS is the opportunity to learn and grow alongside diverse people, while contributing my own energy, creativity, and dedication to our shared mission. We are all, in one way or another, both students and teachers—passing wisdom and warmth to one another, across journeys and generations.

With gratitude and hope, sending warmth from the heart of Nafplio,
Georgia
