Summer 2025 marks the 22nd consecutive year of the [Harvard Summer School Study Abroad Program in Greece](https://greece.chs.harvard.edu/seminar-programs/summer-school), held from June 28 to August 3, with the continued administrative and logistical support of CHS Greece. For five immersive weeks, students explored Greece through a rich blend of seminars, cultural excursions, museum visits, and shared experiences. This year’s itinerary included two weeks in Thessaloniki and three weeks in Nafplio, with short interludes in Ancient Olympia and Athens, adding historical depth and variety to the journey.

The 2025 cohort brought together 18 undergraduate students from a wide range of academic and cultural backgrounds: 11 from Harvard, and 1 each from Agnes Scott College, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, California Polytechnic State University, and Gonzaga University. In addition, two students from the University of Patras and one student from Fudan University joined the program through long-standing scholarship partnerships between CHS and these institutions in Greece and China, now more than a decade strong.

This year’s academic theme, "Political and Natural Environments of the Eastern Mediterranean from Antiquity to the Present: Comparative Cultural Approaches," invited students to reflect critically on how the interplay of politics, geography, and culture has shaped—and continues to shape—the region. Through eight intensive seminars led by distinguished faculty, students examined a range of topics from environmental history and urban planning to political thought and cultural memory.

Beyond the classroom, students engaged in group excursions and site-specific learning that brought seminar topics to life. From ancient ruins to modern cities, every stop offered a new layer of perspective. Participants consistently praised the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum, the accessibility and diversity of the faculty, and the strong sense of academic and social community cultivated throughout the program.

In their evaluations, many students described the experience as intellectually transformative and personally enriching, highlighting both the rigor of the coursework and the connections made with peers and professors alike. The combination of academic depth, cultural immersion, and close mentorship remains one of the defining features of the program—and one that continues to resonate long after the summer ends.

We invite you to explore this year’s journey through photos on the [2025 Harvard Summer School in Greece Facebook album](https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1198426865661360&type=3), and you may also find additional moments from this and past editions on our social media.
