##  Synopsis of the lecture: 

 The lecture will be based on varied information about Epidaurus (topographic, historical, mythological, etc.) provided by the famous traveler of the 2nd century AD, Pausanias. In his ‘Corinthiaca’ (Description of Greece, Book II) the geographer records the site of Epidaurus, and offers historical and mythological details in particular about the sacred grove of Asclepius, where the renowned theater is located. The lecture will include information about the modern institution of the Epidaurus Festival and references by the ‘traveler’ G. Seferis to the theater at Epidaurus. Relevant poems of Seferis will also be read.

##  Short bio of the lecturer & the respondent: 

 Yorgis Yatromanolakis is Emeritus Professor of Classics at the National and Capodistrian University of Athens. He has written books and articles on ancient Greek literature (poetry and prose), modern Greek literature, and has translated ancient Greek authors. He has also published eleven books of prose and four collections of poetry. He is the recipient of the first state award for prose and an award from the Academy of Athens.

 Rena Zamarou is Associate Professor of Ancient Greek Literature in the Department of Philology, National and Capodistrian University of Athens. She has worked on Homer, the ancient Greek tragedians, Callimachus, Chariton of Aphrodisias, dream experiences in antiquity, etc. She has authored studies on Papadiamantis, Engonopoulos, Embeirikos, Ritsos, etc.
