Eight of the nine classics professors from universities in the U.S. and Europe -- co-authors of the book “Postclassicism”-- gathered for a week to discuss and revise the essays that will form the main body of the book. They had a most successful week, following on a weeklong writing retreat in Cortona, Italy. The group achieved nearly a full draft of the book. “Postclassicism” is a collaborative project that aims to develop a critical vocabulary for reflecting on the study of classical antiquity in the early twenty-first century. The Comparative Cultural Studies Program (CCSP) is the oldest continuously running “Harvard Summer School Study Abroad Program”. In its fifteenth annual session of seminars and visits to sites the program brought twenty-five undergraduates to Greece (of whom nineteen were Harvard students)
The CHS Summer Internship Program in Greece marked its eleventh year. It was restructured in summer 2015; the program offered in 2016 internships closely linked to the academic studies and professional development of the participants.
Interns worked with Kenny Morrell, Nicolas Prevelakis, Nicole Newendorp, and all supervisors. There was a wide variety of educational activities and lectures relevant to the interns’ field of study in addition to extra-curricular activities, including a two-day excursion to Athens and one-day trips to Mycenae, Epidaurus, and the Franchthi cave in...
The Ministry of Education, the University of Patras (Department of Philosophy), the Greek Philosophical Society, and CHS GR co-organized the 5th Panhellenic Philosophical Competition for high schools in April 2016, with the support of the Panhellenic Association of Philologists. The final round of the competition was held in Patras. The CHS GR Director serves ex officio as a member of the National Organizing Committee. The Center provides book prizes for the three national winners every year.
